It takes much more than the appropriate technology to create a sustainable green environment and organizational culture. Learn about the challenges of such a transformation at the Technology and Society Forum presentation by Leith Sharp on March 25. Using Harvard University as a case study, Sharp will provide an overview of effective strategies for navigating the related financial, political, technical and human-resource barriers that often act to slow down progress as we strive to integrate sustainability into the life of the campus community.

Sharp, who has nearly 20 years of experience in greening educational institutions, has also worked with universities for well over a decade to achieve organizational change in pursuit of environmental sustainability. In 1995, she established one of the world's first green campus programs at the University of New South Wales, Australia. In 1999, Harvard recruited Sharp to be the founding director of the university’s Green Campus Initiative (recently renamed the Office for Sustainability).  By 2007 Harvard had the largest green campus organization in the world and was a recognized global leader in campus sustainability.

Sharp has been a consultant to over 100 organizations and teaches organizational change and green building design at Harvard. She has received numerous awards for her work, including a Churchill Fellowship and being named Young Australian of the Year, NSW Environment Category.
