The unique sound of the Klang String Quartet will once again be heard at NJIT as the Technology, Art and Society Forum celebrates creative musical expression. “Klang” means “sound” in German, and bringing their distinctive blend of musical interests and influences to campus will be Matthew Goeke (cello), Gregor Kitzis (violin), Rieko Kawabata (violin), and Yi-Ping Yang (viola). They will perform selections from the work of Johannes Brahms, Franz Joseph Haydn and David Vayo, as well as an original composition by violinist Kitzis.
The individual members of this exciting ensemble have performed with early music groups, with major symphony orchestras, and with rock, jazz and pop icons ranging from David Bowie, Enya, David Byrne, Iggy Pop and Mixx 22 to Don Byron, Anthony Braxton and the George Gee Swing Orchestra. They have also recorded on various labels, and their TV appearances include Saturday Night Live and the David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Jay Leno shows.
Members of the quartet have had stellar careers as solo performers and with other ensembles for many years. After numerous appearances that included national and international chamber music and jazz festivals, they united to greet audiences together with a resounding, appealing Klang!
